I would buy a Daihatsu Move Custom kei car from Japan. Even tho I can afford a much bigger more expensive car I have alway had this crazy fascination with the Japanese Kei Cars.

The Daihatsu Move Custom is powered by a 658cc turbocharged inline 3 cylinder producing a neck snapping 64 Horsepower. This may sound incredibly underpowered but keep in mind this engine is producing over 97hp per liter(more HP/L than a Mustang GT) and only has to chug along 1800lbs.

You can get the Daihatsu Move Custom in either FWD or AWD and with your choice of manual or CVT automatic.

This car has a blazing top speed of 140km/h (thats 87.5MPH for you americans).

Fuel economy is as you've guessed,FANTASTIC! this car can get up to 29km/L (68 miles per US gallon).

By now you must be wondering how much it cost. For one exactly as pictured it starts at 1,238,095 JPY (12,162.03 USD) and goes up to 1,646,743 JPY (16,176.26 USD) for a fully loaded AWD model. TALK ABOUT VALUE !!!

The Daihatsu Move is one of Japan's best selling cars so obviously I can't be the only one crazy enough to want one.

For me personally, a Corolla Eco. I like the engine that's specific to this Corolla and I like the wheels more than the one on the S model.

Include the fact my parents are currently in the market for a luxo-minivan, and I'd probably add the Alphard I post all over Oppo as the car I'd get if I didn't freaking live in the US.

Yeah, but $3k is still, like, a really, really nice, running, street legal 944, man. Not ran when parked, but like, running. Well. With maintenance records and stuff. Or like, 6 or 7 ran when parked 944s.

TBH, trading the Lulzcer for a Mirage with a stiiiiick seems tempting. Or a Mazda2. Something smaller and manual that hasn't been punched in the face like my poor Lancer. :o( Then throw a cage in the peanut when I'm bored with it and run B Spec. Awwww yeeeeah.

I could probably afford a bigger/nicer/whatever car, but I don't need one unless it can tow a 944. No way would I buy a towbeast new—let someone else take the depreciation hit. I mean, do you know how many 944s a car payment could buy?! I'd rather continue not having one.

damn, I don't even know. Europe is all fwd and expensive for what you get. The us is kind of the best place for cars, all things considered. I was mulling over the purchase of a Chevy SS, now that they're supposedly giving them a manual. 235i is also intriguing, but i generally only use one parking space at a time, so I'm not sure if a bimmer is for me.

But you wouldn't have to convert it! They're made in rhd, or will be when Ford eventually get around to selling the current Mondeo/Fusion in Europe. We're still on the old model for political reasons. (Why? Because the factory that makes the current one is to be closed, but an a postponement to this year was negotiated and it doesn't make sense to switch the plant to the new model at this stage)

Seriously, in Indonesia we got Japanese imports like that daihatsu move or toyota crown, we got european import like Renault megane and Dacia Sandero, we get Australian imports like Holden Commodore or Fold Falcon, but we don't get CTS-V.

Oh for sure. But it was new enough that it didn't break anyway. And it came with stickers that said "I love you" and "Winner." Plus my license plate was a smiling dude! Never got a real clear answer from any of my Chinese friends as to weather or not i needed a real one. But i guess the answer was "no" since i never got in any trouble with it.

I know those 944's are cheap. I almost bought one as my first car 12-13 years ago. it was $4000 at the time.

I understand your reasoning. I could comfortably afford a 50K-60K car but I think it would be totally crazy to spend that much. But I like having new cars so I drive a $27000 car and I'm happy paying the $400.00/month payment to me it's worth it.

Some think I'm crazy and would rather have an older car and no payments and some think I'm crazy for not buying the 60K car I can afford.

To me it's all about balance, don't be afraid to spent but don't be stupid either.

I've had 2 JDM Right hand drive cars and I will tell you that it just feels right. I feel like that's how cars were meant to be.

the only draw back of driving a RHD in a LHD market is that you cannot go thru a drive thru and you are gambling with your life every time you turn left at a light(you can't see shit)

I would love to have the tuner ready version from Japan with the black bumpers and steelies. I would drive it as is except I would put on wider steelies with proper tires.

Yes, the small car like the Move is cheap since government subsides all car that has engine smaller than 1 litre, but anything bigger than that is taxed massively. For example, in here we pay 59k for miata and 65k for Toyobaru Twins. While the Move is 11k, since it has engine smaller than 1 litre.

hehe. I was just saying that the U.S. was the best place for cars when you take price into account. There are other countries with possibly cooler cars (though there are lots of cool cars that are sold in the U.S. that aren't necessarily sold elsewhere.) So "who has the coolest cars" is kind of a wash for me. Buuuuuut cars cost soooo much less in the U.S. compared to the rest of the world. Decent selection plus great prices is what made me make that statement, but it's also more of an opinion and not something i feel particularly strongly about.

China can't possibly be as bad as they make it sound. I've been to the Philippines and they are probably the nicest people I have ever met. How are the Chinese people to get along with? I have a friend from Hong Kong here in Canada and he's a real great dude.

Oh it was awesome there! I mean, it really is polluted as hell, but the people are great, the food is great and it was a really great time in my life. I had just graduated from college and went over there to teach English in 05-06.

Really the only reason i left was because i felt like it was kind of unhealthy to be there, both in terms of the pollution and in terms of my lifestyle, which was great (drinking and partying all the time) but ultimately not very healthy.

Honestly though, the people were the best, if you learn like 3 words of Chinese they'll be super stoked and really respect you (they all believe that Chinese is the hardest language in the world and they may be right.) But really Chinese in general tend to be outgoing and curious about foreigners rather than standoffish.

Plus...and this sounds stupid, but that great wall man. gotta see it to believe it. Pictures just don't do it justice.

I figured it was like that. I had a blast over seas as a foreigner and the people were really welcoming. same thing if you know a couple of words they love you.

I'm glad to hear that my assumptions about China were correct. I feel it gets such a bad rap and yet it's probably really fascinating. I guess you just have to be open minded and take it for what it is. Most americans would go there and expect it to be just like home.

I'm the same as you I never drank as much as when I went to the Philippines. Beer was about $0.30 a bottle and it had 9% alcohol, go somewhere with 5 bucks and you are crawling home.

Not very healthy but the memories are worth it.
